Two weeks ago, I was blessed to work with teams from Texas and Oklahoma. We partnered with Good Shepard Orphanage and worked on sanding the inside walls of the new guest house there. We also built a few bunk beds for some of the 34 children that live there to use.
I was able to assist the teams in two different forms of ministry that week that I had not been a part of. On Tuesday afternoon, we all took a break from Good Shepard and walked down the street to ASHCA, a handicapped orphanage. There, one of our team members told about God using balloon animals. God touched my heart in ways that I can't begin to put into words.
Many of you know that my mom has worked with special needs students since before I was born. So, these kids really have a special place in my heart, and to see them being ministered to was absolutely incredible.
Then, on Wednesday afternoon, I was able to accompany three of our ladies to the general hospital in Port-au-Prince. These women are all nurses at home and were so excited to be able to bless the mothers at the hospital with diapers, formula and other baby necessities.
When we arrived, I think we were all a little in shock to see the conditions in which these babies were living. Many of them needed immediate medical attention, but were unable to get it because of lack of funds or resources.
Often times in countries like Haiti, the hospitals do not assume care for the individual that is ill. What I mean by that is, the hospital is not responsible to feed the patients or provide medicine to them. That is taken care of by the individual's family. So just before we left, we gathered all of the prescriptions that we could get out hands on and went across the street to the pharmacies. We had to go to multiple pharmacies because one wouldn't have everything we needed, so we would just go next door and fill them. It was a joy to know that the little bit of time that we spent there may have greatly impacted a child's life.
Most of all, we prayed that our presence in both of these ministries was a picture of Christ's love and for His glory. While we were blessing these children, I know that God was blessing me. It is such a privilege to serve a God that wants to woo me in that way.
Again, I am so incredible thankful for your prayers. I assure you that God is using them for me and the people of Haiti. More to come soon for the past week!
